My Magic Story or IrayaBooks: a story with their name or a story with their face
My Magic Story is a Barcelona company with 20 personalised stories for children aged 0 to 10. IrayaBooks makes books in which your child is drawn with their own face. They don't personalise the same thing: one puts their name in the text, alongside an avatar you choose; the other puts their face in every illustration. We tried its website on 23 October 2026, right up to the point of paying.

What changes in each book when you type “Pablo”
On My Magic Story you choose the story, type the name and tick boy or girl. Six drawn faces then appear for you to pick from, with brown, black, curly, red or blonde hair. There's nowhere to upload a photo. The name goes into the text and, in the book its website highlights as its bestseller, “La Magia de mi Nombre” (The Magic of My Name), each letter becomes a quality: P for Pícaro (cheeky), A for Amable (kind).
At IrayaBooks the starting point is a photo of your child. From it we draw them into every scene of a story that's already written and illustrated, in which only the child changes. The name is there too, but what you recognise when you open the book is the face.

Pablo in both books: a brown-haired avatar and a boy with his own tousled hair
For the comparison we used Pablo, the fictional boy from our tests, who has tousled dark blonde hair. On My Magic Story we chose the avatar closest to him, the brown-haired one. In about six seconds we had the whole of “La historia de Pablo” (Pablo's Story) on screen, and every scene showed the same boy: short brown hair, exactly what any Pablo who picked that avatar would get.
In our Super Hero Saves the City, Pablo is Pablo: the tousled hair from his photo, his face as he watches the storm through the window and that same face, mask off by now, as he says goodbye on the last page. And that face stays the same from the first scene to the last because every page starts from an illustration that's already finished, in which only the child changes, always drawn from his photo.

Where My Magic Story beats us
They show you the whole book for free, in seconds and without asking for your email. We show you the finished cover, with their face, within a couple of minutes, and we ask for your email first. Their catalogue is broader (birthdays, numbers, stories dedicated to mum, dad or the grandparents, activities) and the book also comes in Catalan and more than twenty other languages.
In IrayaBooks' favour: they don't make it in Basque or Galician and we do, and we have stories with two main characters, siblings or a mum and her baby, each with their own face. In theirs there's only ever one drawn main character. And before it goes to print, someone on our team checks every page.
Name or face: which one suits what you're after
If you're looking for a book “with the child's face”, you want to see your child, not a character with their name: that's what we do. More brands in our comparison of photo books.
- My Magic Story suits you if what you want is their name in it, you'd like to read the whole thing before paying, or you're after a theme we don't have, such as numbers.
- IrayaBooks suits you if you want your child to recognise themselves when they open it: their own face, not a character that looks a bit like them, the same on every page. Or if it's for two siblings, a mum and her baby, or in Basque or Galician.

Frequently asked questions
Does My Magic Story use a photo of the child?
No. You pick one of their six avatars and type the name; there's no step for uploading a photo.
Can I see the book before paying with each one?
With My Magic Story, the whole thing, without giving your email. With IrayaBooks, their finished cover, for free; if you don't like it, try another photo.
Do both make the book in Catalan?
Yes. The difference is Basque and Galician: My Magic Story doesn't offer them and IrayaBooks does. We explain it in our guide to the story in Catalan.
