Personalised book in Basque: their face on every page and their name properly declined
Anyone looking for a book with their child's photo in Basque usually comes back empty-handed. At IrayaBooks all eight stories are complete in Basque: the title, the text on every page and the back cover. What follows are three family situations we come across often and what suits each one, with lines taken from the book itself.

If you speak Basque at home: a book that says their name the way you do
In Basque a name changes depending on its role in the sentence, and a book that just pastes âMateoâ everywhere jars from the very first page. Ours declines it. With Mateo, one of our sample boys, the dinosaur story says:
- On the cover, âMateoren Dinosauroen Haranaâ: Mateo's valley of the dinosaurs.
- In the dedication, âMateorentzat: ez utzi inoiz esploratzeariâ: for Mateo, may he never stop exploring.
- When he's the one doing something, âMateok barre egin zuenâ: Mateo laughed.
- And in the superhero story, right there on the cover: âSuper Pablok hiria salbatu duâ.

You type the name once and the book picks the right form on every page. Names ending in a consonant too: Iker becomes âIkerrenâ when something belongs to him.
If you speak Spanish at home and Basque is the language of the ikastola
It's common in the Basque Country and Navarre: the parents speak Spanish to each other and the child is taught in Basque. A Basque story of their own brings the two together: at home there's also a book in the language of the classroom, and the hero is them.
- Let them read it to you. Once they're reading on their own, the text suits them: two lines per page, rhyming, easy to follow aloud.
- With the same story in Spanish alongside. You can order it twice, one in each language. The illustrations are identical, so every page of the Basque book has its exact match in the other one.
- To mark a new stage. When they start at the ikastola, a Basque book with them in it helps the new language feel like their own.

If you're amama and aitite and want to give them a gift in your language
For many grandparents, Basque is the language they speak with their grandchildren, and a story in Basque is another way of carrying on doing so. The website also works in Basque from start to finish: you choose the story, select Basque as the book language on the form and write the dedication in your own words.
All you need is a photo of the child facing the camera in good light. If you don't have one to hand, ask their parents; in the guide for grandparents we explain how to do it without spoiling the surprise. Before paying you see their finished cover, free, with their face and their name in the title.
Translating isn't enough: rhyme and declension on every page
Before writing this guide, on 8 October 2026, we went through the websites of the photo books most advertised in Spain. Basque wasn't on any of them; the only one that offers other languages of Spain does so for a story written at the moment you order.
Doing it properly takes work: as well as translating every page and finding it a rhyme, you have to decline the main character's name in every sentence, and in Basque that changes even the ending of the title. We did it for all eight stories, including Besoetan Kulunka, the one for a mum and her baby, and Botoi Magikoa, for two siblings.
