Personalised book in Galician: the grandparents' gift for reading aloud

In many Galician homes, Galician is the grandparents' language: the language of lullabies, sayings and bedtime stories. A story with their grandchild's face written entirely in Galician brings that language to the child on paper too. At IrayaBooks all eight stories exist in Galician; here you'll see which one suits each age, how it sounds read aloud and how to order it without leaving Galician.

To choose between the ones for ages 2 to 8, what matters most is what they're into right now: dinosaurs, capes or princesses. If it's for a baby and their mum, Os Brazos que te Arrolan takes both photos.

How it sounds read aloud

A bedtime story is read aloud, and read aloud you can hear straight away whether a text was translated in a hurry. Ours were put into Galician in verse, with their own rhyme. Three examples:

  • “Mamá Rex baixou a cabeza xigante: —Grazas, Mateo! —díxolle ao instante.”
  • “A máquina faiscou: PFFF!, CHAS!, PATAPÁN!, e as nubes negras fuxiron… adeus, furacán!” This is the moment the superhero breaks up the storm.
  • “E o sol saíu de novo, dourado e brillante, cun arco da vella enorme sobre a cidade xigante.”
Galician page: Pablo, dressed as a superhero, flies down from a crane with a kitten in his arms
“No alto dun guindastre miañaba un gatiño. —Xa te teño, pequeniño!”
Galician page: Mama Rex brings her enormous head down to Mateo, who smiles
“Mamá Rex baixou a cabeza xigante: —Grazas, Mateo! —díxolle ao instante.”
Last page in Galician: Mateo sleeps with a smile in his bed, with the lamp on
The last page, for reading once the lights are low: “Mateo adormeceu cun sorriso…”.

If you're grandparents who read in Galician, this is your book. If Galician isn't your everyday language, it still reads well: each page is two lines and the rhythm carries you along.

How to order in Galician, from start to finish

It costs €39.99 for a 33-page hardback, plus €4.99 delivery, and takes 7 to 9 working days. If it's for Christmas or Three Kings' Day, check the order deadlines in the Christmas guide.

  1. Open the website in Galician: it's translated from the home page right through to payment.
  2. Choose the story and, on the form, check that Galician appears under “Idioma do conto”.
  3. Upload a photo of the child facing the camera, in good light. If you're a grandparent and don't have one, ask the parents for it; the guide for grandparents takes you through it step by step.
  4. Within a couple of minutes their cover appears with their face, free. If you're not convinced, try another photo.
  5. Write the dedication in Galician (up to 140 characters) and enter the address: the grandchildren's or your own.
  6. Pay. The order emails reach you in Galician too.

Everything that's in Galician, from the title to the back cover

It isn't a Spanish book with a Galician sticker on it. Taking the dinosaur story with Mateo as an example, all of this is in Galician:

  • The title on the cover, with his name: “O Val dos Dinosauros de Mateo”.
  • The dedication it comes with, “Para Mateo: que nunca deixes de explorar”, which you can swap for your own for free.
  • The 28 story pages, in verse and with his name in the text.
  • The back cover and the spine, with the title.

Of the photo book websites we looked at on 8 October 2026, Galician appeared on only one, as the language of a story generated when you place the order. Here the story already exists in Galician, with its rhyme, before the photo arrives, and a person checks it page by page before it's printed.

Frequently asked questions

Which Galician is it written in?

The official standard, the one taught at school.

Can it be sent outside Galicia?

Yes: we deliver anywhere in Spain, and the book's language doesn't depend on where it's received. If your grandchildren live in Vigo and you live in Madrid, you send it straight to their home.

Are there Galician stories for two siblings?

Yes: O Misterio do Mapa Roto and O Botón Máxico, with a photo of each child.

What if I don't like the result?

We redo it for free, once, before it's printed.
