A personalised Olentzero book with their face

In “Olentzero's Lantern” it's Christmas Eve and, from bed, your little one sees a tiny light coming down the mountain. It's Olentzero, the Basque charcoal maker, with his beret, his donkey and his lantern: he knocks at the door, warms up by the fire and eats the chestnuts left out for him. Then he takes your child up on the donkey to his charcoal mound in a snowy clearing, explains that the charcoal that warms the village in winter comes from there and, in his hut, carves them a little wooden donkey. In the morning there are presents by the fire, a sooty footprint on the floor… and the little donkey in a pocket. The illustrations they appear in are made from their photo, with their face, and their name is in the text.

It's a gift for boys and girls aged 2 to 8: the text adapts to whether it's a boy or a girl. A book to read together on the night of 24 December and keep forever. You can order it in English, Basque, Spanish, Catalan or Galician.

Here's how it works: upload a clear, front-facing photo and in about two minutes you'll see their character and the real cover, for free. Only if you love it do you order it, for €39.99: a 20×20 cm hardback with 33 illustrated pages, checked page by page by a real person and printed to order. Delivery anywhere in Spain costs €4.99 (free on book orders of €50 or more) and it usually arrives in 7 to 9 working days. The photo is deleted after 30 days and is never used to train AI.

What age is the Olentzero book for?

It's for children aged 2 to 8. The sentences are short and rhyming, and the night on the mountain (the lantern, the donkey, the charcoal mound that never sleeps) is a particular hit with 2- to 6-year-olds.

Why is there charcoal in the story?

Because Olentzero is a charcoal maker: it's his trade. In the story charcoal is never a punishment — it's what keeps the village homes warm in winter.

Is it really my child, or a doll that looks a bit like them?

It's really your child: the character is created from their photo, and before you pay you see their character and the cover for free, so you can check the likeness.
